The Story Behind LilLaw

Every brand has a story. This is mine.

People often ask me where the name LilLaw comes from.

The short answer is easy: Lilla + Law = LilLaw. But the real story is a little more entertaining.

When I created dracslilla.com, my goal was simply to build an English-language website where international clients could find practical legal information about Hungary. It worked well, but after a while I realised that although my own name represented me perfectly, it wasn't exactly easy to remember, pronounce or even spell if you weren't Hungarian. So I started looking for a brand.

I honestly thought finding a name would take a weekend.

It took months.

I filled pages with ideas, most of which were terrible. Some sounded like accounting firms, others like IT companies, and a few were so bad that I'm glad nobody will ever see that notebook.

Then came a hot afternoon in July. I was chatting with my lovely neighbour, Peter, who also happens to be one of my closest friends.

Peter is an electrical engineer and my go-to person whenever I have questions about high-voltage projects in Hungary. If you ever need that kind of expertise, he's the person I'd recommend without hesitation.

The funny part is that creativity has never really been his thing. I'm the one who enjoys painting, puzzles and all sorts of creative projects, while Peter is usually the practical, analytical one.

So after months of me trying to come up with the perfect brand name, it's still slightly annoying that he was the one who had the best idea.

Before we got there, we briefly considered LilLegal.

For about five seconds, I thought it sounded brilliant.

Then I said it out loud a couple of times...

LilLegal.

Illegal. I had a sudden vision of the Hungarian Bar Association wondering why one of its lawyers had decided to build a brand that sounded suspiciously close to illegal. I figured that probably wasn't the best way to start a legal brand.

So we laughed, crossed it off the list and carried on.

A few minutes later, Peter looked at me and simply said:

"What about LilLaw?"

We both went quiet for a second. Then we said it again.

LilLaw

That was it.

I wish I could tell you that I came up with the name myself, but I can't honestly take the credit. The best ideas have a funny habit of appearing when you're having a completely ordinary conversation with someone who knows you well.

Recently, LilLaw officially became a registered trademark.

Of course, receiving the certificate made me smile. But the trademark isn't really what matters. It protects the name; it doesn't build the reputation behind it. That part still depends on the quality of my work, the trust of my clients, and the relationships I build over the years.

That's what I want LilLaw to stand for.

Not just a name.

Not just a logo.

But practical legal advice, straightforward communication and a lawyer people genuinely enjoy working with.

One more thing...

You can already have a look at lillaw.hu

The website isn't completely finished yet—and, knowing myself, it probably never will be. Every week I find something to rewrite, redesign or move somewhere else. But it's reached the stage where I'm happy for people to start exploring it.

So if you have a few minutes, take a look around.

And if you spot something that could be better, let me know. After all, LilLaw itself was born from a conversation. Maybe the next good idea will be too.

I hope you'll remember the name.

Maybe because one of my legal articles helped you.

Maybe because of this story.

Either way, I'm perfectly happy with that.
