What Are My Chances of Getting a Hungarian Visa?

One of the most common questions I receive from foreign clients is: "What are my chances of getting a Hungarian visa or residence permit?"

Most people expect a quick answer. A percentage. A reassuring sentence. Something they can hold onto before investing time, money, or energy into the process.

But in reality, that is not how it works.

Hungarian company formation and immigration procedures are two completely separate systems. The fact that someone wants to establish a company in Hungary does not automatically mean that they will later receive a residence permit. The authorities do not assess one document only — they examine the entire picture together.

Professional background matters. The business concept matters. The planned Hungarian operation must appear realistic. The authorities also examine whether there is a genuine financial and operational background behind the structure and whether the overall relocation plan appears credible in practice.

And this is exactly why no serious legal assessment can be given based on a few WhatsApp messages.

In many cases, people are not really looking for legal advice yet. They are looking for reassurance. They want to hear that "yes, this will probably work" before investing further time or money into the process.

But a responsible lawyer does not start with promises.

A responsible lawyer starts with questions.

Because a Hungarian company does not become real simply because it appears in the company register. The real question is whether the entire structure will function later as well — with banking, accounting, administration, compliance obligations, operational reality, and immigration considerations together.

That is why a real legal assessment starts with documents, not optimistic promises.

Because registering a company is relatively easy.

Building a genuinely workable presence in Hungary is a completely different story.
